Patient Information: Recent Public Health Incident
Public health teams are currently contacting anyone who may be at genuine risk following the recent incident.
- If you have not been contacted directly by a public health team, you are very unlikely to need antibiotics or any other preventive treatment.
- Any questions about who is eligible for antibiotics should be directed to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) or the local Health Protection Team, not your GP practice.
- We will, of course, continue to assess and care for anyone who is unwell or has symptoms that may suggest meningococcal disease, following normal clinical procedures.
Because of the scale of the situation, we may experience increased demand. To make sure care is safe and consistent, we will follow public health guidance rather than prescribing antibiotics outside the coordinated response.
