Please call at reception or telephone during surgery opening hours to make an appointment. For routine appointments please telephone between 11:00 and 15:30 if at all possible, as the surgery is quieter then and it is easier for the receptionist to deal with your call.
We offer a Duty Doctor system every day. If you are ill or unwell and need to be seen on the day and all of our same day appointments have been allocated then our duty doctor will phone you back. If they feel you need to be seen by a doctor they will offer you an appointment.
We try to make sure you see the doctor of your choice but if they are not available we may ask you to see another doctor. Some of our doctors work part time at the surgery, therefore it may be difficult to see them on the day you wish to be seen. We would kindly ask for your consideration in this matter.
If you would like to speak to a doctor or nurse by telephone, please phone the surgery and we will take the message and arrange for them to phone you back.
The phones can get very busy in the mornings (especially on Mondays) so please be patient if you are having difficulty in getting through.
You can book appointments online via Patient access. Before you can use this service you will need to come into the practice to register with a form of photo ID (i.e. passport of photocard driving licence). You will be asked to sign a form and then we will be able to issue you with your log in details. Please do not try and register online for this service until you have picked up your log in details from the Practice. You will then be able to access this service via the online services tab on the website.
We are improving access to appointments – GP Access Hubs (formerly known as MIAMI)
From 01 October, GP and nurse appointments are now available during the evening and at the weekend for people across Coastal West Sussex.
This means that urgent appointments are available up to 8pm during the week, and during clinics on a Saturday and Sunday.
This aims to improve access to GP appointments and help local people to get the help and support they need.
The service is run by Innovations in Primary Care (IPC), a not-for-profit company owned by local GP practices. Further information on IPC can be found here http://innovationsinprimarycare.com/gpah-clinic/
The appointments will be available at local GP access hubs, run from GP surgeries, and they will be both routine and urgent appointments with a doctor, nurse or healthcare professional.
The teams will see new illnesses when you urgently need to see a health professional, and offer planned appointments such as family planning and smear tests that can be hard to arrange whilst at work or when you are caring for family or a loved one.
We hope that this roll out of the hubs across the whole of Coastal West Sussex will mean that all patients registered with a GP practice in our area can benefit.
You book into the GP access hubs via your normal GP practice, and you may be offered an appointment at one of the hubs at the weekend if you call NHS 111 for urgent health advice and support.
The hubs are located at nearby neighbouring GP practices.
The teams will have access to your medical records with your consent, and any care they provide will be added to your notes so your GP practice can continue any ongoing care.
You can book into these appointments by calling us in the normal way, and they will be able to access the booking system and make sure you receive the help and support you need. The Receptionists will need to ask what your medical problems is to ensure they can triage you correctly, to either the Duty Doctor at this practice or one of the Doctors at the GP Access Hubs.
Our practice nurses are trained in triage (assessing how best to help a patient). There are some conditions, for example cystitis, sore throats, earache, sprains and strains, where it may be suitable to either see a nurse or speak to her on the telephone rather than a doctor. The nurse will be able to arrange a prescription or call the doctor through to see you if it is appropriate. Please ring between 08:00 and 09:15 for a triage appointment.
Blood tests need to be done before 13:30 as the blood samples are collected at that time.
Please bear in mind that surgeries are booked for an average 10 minutes’ consultation and, while we may sometimes take longer than the average, we try to keep to time and may have to ask you to book another appointment if you have more than one problem to discuss.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
